Sweetwater Trail Loop
Nature Unplugged Community Hike—August | Nature Unplugged Community hikes and events are a time to get together with old friends and make new ones. It’s a time to unplug from our devices, breathe in the fresh air and connect with the world around us. We’re committed to creating a community that values time outside, together—and that’s why we host these free, organized monthly hikes and events around San Diego.
While these hikes are offered at no cost, we do require registration. Your registration lets us know you're coming so that we can look for you at the trailhead. In advance of the hike, we'll also send you an email with helpful information including things like directions, parking tips, the weather outlook and what to bring.
Sweetwater Trail Loop
The Sweetwater Trail is a 3 mile loop that heads toward a rocky ridge. There are tangles of oak trees all along the trail. You'll hike through scrub, rugged, green vegetation with sporadic, vibrant wildflowers. As you continue, the trail heads into the Sweetwater River, where the canyon's dense vegetation is blooming.
Many unique wildlife species can be seen in this area, such as the California Buckwheat, Blue Elderberry, Arroyo Toad, and the uncommon Least Bell's Vireo.
